About my Process

Painting, collage and mixed media

As an abstract painter working with collage and mixed media, I typically apply multiple layers to achieve depth and interest.

It may surprise some, but I rarely have an objective in mind when I begin the process. I react intuitively to what develops. As each layer is applied I respond by making decisions about size and placement — often adding or subtracting elements as it moves to completion.

I’ve painted-out or sanded-away large sections that are not working for me. This continues until I’m satisfied with the results.

That’s why I prefer custom, wood substrates.

They’re strong enough to take it.
